Over the next 20 weeks I will be writing a series of articles entitled 100 Healing Tips for Personal Transformation and Upliftment that I intend to turn into an expanded book on the subject. Some of these tips are powerfully life enhancing and are truly meant to be practiced for soul growth. I call these areas of life mastery that we are here to recall. I’ll point these out along the way. Ideally these are the keys for living an enlightened, joyful life of abundance. The other tips will be what I call uplifting actions that will open the passage way for new beginnings. They are ways to “reach for relief” when times are tough as I learned from the teachings of Abraham–a wise group of non-physical Beings who speak through the conscious channel Ester Hicks. You can find out more about their teachings by visiting their website www.Abraham-Hicks.com. When we take action in a mindful way that attends to our truest needs, we always feel relieved. Actions that “reach for relief,” or thinking that lightens our spirits, all fall in the category of soul re-alignment.
It is my wish that you will attract to you the Healing Tips or inspired actions that will guide you in your journey of transformation. Keep in mind that these are tips that feel good to me and that I feel are life enhancing when taken in moderation. Your greatest resource is always inside of you, so always follow what feels good to you until a solution arises within you. Remember not to escape your problems through this feeling good, but use these tools to come back to a more relaxed, calm you so you can then focus your attention on the solution. All solutions lie within and you have the power to access them. I’ve grown to appreciate these healing methods as my ways of revealing that which is most beneficial for me to act upon, move toward or embrace in my journey. The bottom line is that life is a journey to be explored, so have fun exploring these tips and listen to your guidance in all that you embark upon and experience.
Article 10: 100 Healing Tips for Personal Transformation and Upliftment
46. Assess and Transcend Your Escapism Habits
According to Google, escapism is “the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy”. From this definition, it is clear that escapism is the avoidance of an issue that is too hard to face at the time. We can not access creative solutions when we are in stress. Most escapists are wanting to detox emotionally and mentally. In many ways they are training themselves to “reach for relief” from the struggles that they are experiencing. This is not a bad thing, and you are not a bad person. You simply learned that this form of relief was necessary for you to have fun and relax.
Having grown up in a family of alcoholics, addicts and escapists, I too was baptized into this coping mechanism as a way to relieve my stress, and in some ways, to feel a sense of belonging to my clan. In my family, we all used alcohol and/or drugs to escape our reality along with TV. Most of my family had a smoking addiction as well. Fortunately, this is one habit that asthma saved me from picking up. In any event, it’s important not to judge your behavior as you were reaching for a way to come back into alignment with the joyful, peaceful you in whatever way you could. Now it’s time to assess the behavior and understand what it’s a camouflage for. What are you hiding from? What are you avoiding? What do you need and want as a person? What do you want to create in your life?
Escapist in some way feel apathetic and powerless. They may also be addicted to the form of relief they are reaching for. In any event, it’s time to recondition yourself to find life enhancing habits that not only relieve your stress, but enhance your overall sense of health and well-being. Meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, running, dancing, art, writing, or doing something that you truly enjoy and isn’t a mask for your boredom or avoidance, are far more productive and life enhancing. Underneath it all, you really want to find your personal sense of power, freedom and love for self. You want to be free to be you and face your issues in an adult way that empowers you and others. Another way to transcend your escapist rituals is to turn your attention to resolving your problems with win/win solutions. However, some of you may need to heal from your dysfunctional past and begin to trust yourself again before your able to creatively solve your life issues. But whatever the underlying cause is for your escapism, there is a solution that will uplift you and assist you to be more in alignment with your authentic self. Lovingly ask yourself those tough questions and then be brave enough to change.
47. Homeopathic Remedies
According to Google, “homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine created in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann, based on his doctrine of like cures like (similia similibus curentur), a claim that a substance that causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people would cure similar symptoms in sick people.” I found my way into homeopathy through my doctor of naturopathy. At the time my daughter was about 3 years old and suffering from chronic sinus infections like myself. I had heard that homeopathy works really well with children and I didn’t want her to be on antibiotic after antibiotic like I was most of my life. I found a homeopathist that I trusted and he prescribed a dose for my daughter based upon her symptoms. She had a high fever from the dose but after that, she was cured for over a year. We gave her one more dose and she hasn’t had a sinus infection since this. She’s now 17 years old.
I too have had a lot of success with homeopathy for acute and chronic issues. Homeopathy even helped cure my asthma and a period of acute anxiety attacks that I was going through. I love that homeopathy also works at the emotional, mental and physical levels of being so it can help with addictions, depression and all kinds of emotional issues. Finding the right homeopathist is important as it takes years of study to truly understand this art. I would highly recommend Alfie Wishart in Dallas Texas at www.wishartcounseling.com. He’s also a psychologist and has a classical approach to homeopathy that can really help people with life long conditions. For acute symptoms like colds, flu, rashes etc, you can try the over the counter varieties of remedies and follow the instructions on the container. For anything that lasts longer than a few days I would seek a professional homeopathist.
48. Read Books that Inspire, Uplift and Guide You
Seeking knowledge from books has always been a way for me to expand as a soul, but also it has helped me to know more about myself and what I want and desire. Books that inspire me to see the gifts in being human and the gifts of our Eternal Nature, always transform my day. Inspiring books, to me, are God’s Love in action. They are a mirror for our own wisdom within, for our grace, courage, joy, prosperity etc. There have been books that have pulled me out of the darkest times. Books that have helped me to heal my inner wounds and to open my heart. Books that have helped me to forgive myself and others, and of course, books that have helped me to laugh and enjoy life. When you walk away from a book feeling inspired, that is Spirit guiding you to see the gift of the book’s words and the power of the author to transfer the belief of their Spirit to us.
Books that inspire, uplift and guide you can be the impetus to knowing and loving oneself at a deeper level. When we know and love our self at a deeper level, real healing can occur. When others face their fears and share that with us, it gives us courage to face our own. However, books can be an emotional bypass to facing your own wounds, struggles and obstacles. We have to learn to apply what we’ve learned from the books in our daily lives. Some books can assist you in feeling suppressed emotions, accepting them for what they are and then guide you back to the truth. They will uplift and inspire you to change but ultimately, you must BE the cause for the change in your life. Below is a list of books that helped me to catalyze change in my life.
Trust Your Vibes by Sonia Choquette
Ask and It is Given by Abraham-Hicks
Dying to Be Me by Anita Moorjani
Soul Contracts by Carolyn Myss
Quantum Healing by Deepak Chopra
The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra
Emotional Bullshit by Carl Alasko Phd
How to be an Adult in Relationships by David Richo
The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz
49. Do Not Take Things Personally
In the book The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz he talks about “not taking things personally” as one of the four agreements. It’s a wonderful little book to read that for me, really shed some light on how to live with integrity. This concept was first introduced to me in a psychic development group that I was apart of when I first started to open up to my psychic awareness. The teacher of this class wanted us to read this book as it was a catalyst for change in her life. To this day, I still have “the four agreements” posted at my desk and on my refrigerator.
I wanted to talk about “not taking things personally” because I feel that it’s one of those areas of mastery when you’re on a spiritual journey that is so beneficial to healing. I’m getting much better at this then when I first started especially when I’m able to presence the pain or feeling that arises when I internalize someone’s reaction or judgement of me or my work. To me, the idea behind this tenet for living is to trust that everybody has their stuff. When someone judges you, especially in a harsh way, or is mad or intolerant in some way, it’s best to ask yourself these questions. Who’s intolerance is this? Am I mad at myself and this person is mirroring this to me? Or is this person moving through their own stuff?
The bottom line is that when someone is angry, intolerant, judgmental or even self-righteous, these emotions that they are having are not in alignment with who they truly are. It’s just a product of their limiting beliefs and self judgement. Our Eternal Nature is Love and Spirit never judges but lifts one up into the discovery of one’s own Truth and Divinity. When we practice “not taking things personally”, we’ll open our hearts more to our selves and others. Internalizing another person’s reaction to us serves no one. Least of all you. Practicing “not taking things personally” can be very freeing as we begin to see things at face value and to stand in our love and honor of self.
50. Find the Deeper Meaning of Life
We are growth seeking Beings. We are not meant to stay stuck for long. My healing process started with the search for the deeper meaning in life. I literally had to face chronic illness and the underlying fear of dying young in order to find deeper meaning in life. In college, I wasn’t sure if I believed in God. I had so many questions as to what God was. Who’s God was the true God? How could God let there be so much pain and suffering? I wasn’t buying into what Catholicism and Christianity were selling me. Don’t get me wrong, today I feel each religion has its gold nuggets and gifts to Humanity. However, I was into the true knowing of God as an experience of life. I was also fascinated by the idea of science and God coming together. The idea that everything was energy and vibration intrigued me and felt like Truth. This I could understand and experience fully in my bodies. When I read the books The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield and Quantum Healing by Deepak Choprah, my myopic world view started to change. I began to feel that God was within me and in all things. I begin to see the seed of hope for my healing. This sent me on a journey into healing which ultimately became a journey for the deeper meaning of life.
Only you can embark upon this spiritual journey. I feel we all do it in some way as it’s part of the growth pattern of the Soul. I truly believe we are here as Souls to embody and live our Divinity as best as we can. We are here to seek our own inner Truth and to discover the richness of being a living, breathing expression of God’s Love and Joy in this Universe. Finding the deeper meaning of life is an ever unfolding process. Like the rose that unfolds to it’s fullest expression of beauty, so shall we. Remember though, that each stage of this “unfoldment” and every part of the rose, including the thorns, are equally beautiful and purposeful.
